Joan Bernal, Age 34 was reported missing in Joliet, Illinois December 9, 1988.
Her husband at the time Gilbert Bernal was a suspect and arrested for her murder though Joan was never found. A witness states he struck her on the arm and grabbed her by the hair, yanking her head back and forth until she went limp and closed her eyes. He then dragged her out of the bedroom. He told several people that he had two 55 gallon drums. He stated that these drums filled with antifreeze could mask the smell of decomposition. Detectives found one of the two drums at his home, though the other one has yet to be recovered. Charges were later dropped because a witness claimed to have positively identified Joan after she went missing.
